12/52 It's sugaring time!

Lots of these (maple trees),

make a whole bunch of this (sap),
20110320-IMG_1831.jpg
which is gathered and cooked down here, at the "sugar shack,"

to make 3 very happy people eating sugar on snow. (for those not it the know, that's maple syrup poured over snow, which hardens into a caramel-like consistency)

Did you know:
That it takes 40 gallons of sap to make just one gallon of maple syrup?
That Vermont is the largest producer of maple syrup in the U.S.?
That no one really uses those buckets anymore, and that tubing is used instead?
That there is NO sense in eating pancakes without REAL maple syrup?!
